Our guides exist to help people make better decisions about paid media, whether or not they ever work with us. That only works if they're accurate, current and honest about their limits. These are the standards we hold them to.
Who's responsible
Every guide is published under the name of Perry, Brightpace's founder and a former Performance Marketing Manager at Ticketmaster. He's responsible for what each guide says, and for correcting it when something's wrong. You can read more about Brightpace.
Sources come first
- Official documentation before anything else. For how a platform works, we check Google, Microsoft, Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn and the other platforms' own help centres and developer docs first.
- Rules from the people who set them. Advertising rules come from the regulators and bodies that publish them, such as the ASA's CAP Code, the FCA, the SRA and the GDC, rather than from summaries.
- Benchmarks from named, recent sources. Cost and performance figures are taken from published studies and datasets we can link to, with the date they apply to. Where sources disagree, we say so and give a range.
- Every guide ends with a Sources section listing what it was checked against, with a "last checked" month.
Dates you can rely on
Each guide shows the date it was first published. When we make a meaningful change, such as new platform features, updated figures or a corrected point, we add an "Updated" date. We don't change the date for small edits like typos, so a recent date always means the content was actually reviewed.
Paid media changes quickly, so we aim to re-check cost benchmarks at least every six months and update guides when platforms change how something works.
Examples are labelled as examples
Worked examples, sample figures, dashboards and illustrations are there to show how something works. They're clearly marked as examples or illustrations, use made-up businesses and numbers, and are never presented as client results. We don't publish client data or results without the client's written permission.
Our free tools
Our calculators and tools use standard, published formulas, and each one explains how it works. Their results are estimates based on the figures you enter, not a guarantee of performance. They run in your browser, and we don't store the figures you enter.
Independence
- We aren't paid by Google, Meta or any other platform to write about them, and we don't publish sponsored posts or paid placements.
- We don't use affiliate or referral links. If we ever add one, it will be clearly labelled where it appears.
- Brightpace sells paid media management, audits and consultancy, and our guides link to those services where they're relevant. We still say when something isn't worth paying for, or when a cheaper option such as a free platform test will answer your question first.
Corrections
If you spot something that's wrong or out of date, please email hello@brightpace.co.uk with "Correction" in the subject and a link to the page. We'll check it promptly, fix it if it's wrong, and update the page's date when the change is meaningful.
General information, not advice
Our guides explain how things work in general. They aren't professional advice for your specific business, and regulated firms should always have their own compliance sign-off on ads. Our website terms explain this in more detail.
