In short

Brightpace sets up server-side tracking: server-side Google Tag Manager, Meta Conversions API, Google enhanced conversions and the TikTok and LinkedIn equivalents. It is consent-aware, deduplicated and documented, so ad platforms get the conversions browser tracking misses.

How we work
AI-native: AI speeds up research, creative testing and reporting, and a senior specialist makes every call.

Your ad platforms are missing sales.

Most tracking runs as scripts in each visitor’s browser. That’s fragile: ad blockers stop some scripts, browsers shorten cookie lifetimes, and pages that close too quickly never send the event. Every conversion the platforms miss is one they can’t learn from or credit.

Server-side tracking sends events through a server on your own subdomain, then straight to each platform’s API. Run alongside the browser pixel and matched by a shared event ID, it gives Google, Meta and the rest a fuller, cleaner picture, for the people who have said yes to tracking. We run the same set-up on this site.

(01) What we run

One clean stream of events, to every platform.

01

Server-side GTM on your own subdomain

A tracking server at an address like track.yourbrand.co.uk, hosted with a provider such as Stape or on Google Cloud, so events are first-party and under your control.

02

Meta Conversions API, deduplicated

Server events sent alongside the pixel with a shared event ID and hashed match keys, so Meta counts each conversion once and matches more of them.

03

Enhanced & offline conversions

Hashed first-party data sent with your Google Ads conversions, plus offline conversion imports so Google learns which leads became customers.

04

GA4 without personal data

Analytics events routed through the same server, with personal details kept out of GA4, as Google’s policies require.

05

Microsoft, TikTok & LinkedIn APIs

The Microsoft UET Conversions API, TikTok Events API and LinkedIn Conversions API set up the same way where you advertise, so every platform is judged on the same events.

06

Consent built in

Your cookie banner’s choices respected end to end: nothing goes to ad platforms for people who decline, and Consent Mode passes choices on to Google.

(02) How we work

Audit, build, prove it works.

  1. 01

    Audit what you have

Which tags fire, what’s double-counted, what’s missing, and whether you need a full server or a lighter option.

  2. 02

    Build and test

Server, platform connections and consent rules built, then checked with each platform’s test tools before anything goes live.

  3. 03

    Verify and hand over

We confirm server events are arriving and matched, then document the set-up so it’s yours to keep.

  • Your own tracking subdomain

A first-party server at an address like track.yourbrand.co.uk, owned by you.

  • Deduplication with your pixels

A shared event ID on every conversion, so each one is counted once.

  • Consent respected end to end

Connected to your cookie banner and Google’s Consent Mode.

  • Tested with each platform’s tools

Events checked arriving, matched and deduplicated before anything goes live.

  • Documentation & hand-over

A clear write-up of how it works, so the set-up is yours to keep.

  • Monitoring after site changes

Included for management clients, so tracking doesn’t quietly break.

(04) The problem

Why browser-only tracking falls short.

01

Ad blockers and privacy tools

Some visitors block tracking scripts entirely, so their conversions never reach the platforms.

02

Short-lived browser cookies

Safari limits cookies set by browser scripts to seven days, so a customer who takes longer to decide can look like a stranger.

03

Platforms optimise on what they see

If Meta or Google see only part of your conversions, their bidding learns from part of the picture.

04

Double-counting

Pixel and server events without a shared ID get counted twice, which makes results look better than they are.

(05) Alongside management or standalone

Part of the service, or a project on its own.

Core tracking is included in our media management. The full server-side set-up is an add-on, recommended only where it will pay off, and monitoring after site changes is included. Ask for a quote.

Already have an agency or in-house team? We build, test and document the set-up as a standalone project for a fixed price, and hosting is paid at cost, straight to the provider.

Server-side tracking is the foundation of our measurement work: once the numbers are right, lift tests show what your ads really add. It also powers the platform work we do on Meta, Google Ads and TikTok, and our guide to first-party data explains why it matters for targeting too.

Ask a question →
01What is server-side tracking?

Server-side tracking sends your website’s conversion events through a server you control, usually on a subdomain of your own site, and from there to the ad platforms’ APIs. Browser-only tracking relies on scripts running in each visitor’s browser, which ad blockers and browser privacy features can stop.

02Do I need server-side tracking?

If you spend a meaningful amount on Meta, Google or TikTok and rely on them to optimise towards sales or leads, it’s usually worth it. If you’re just starting out, or a platform’s own integration already sends server events for you (for example on Shopify), a lighter set-up may be enough. We’ll tell you which.

03How much difference does it make?

It depends on your audience’s browsers, devices and blockers, so it isn’t a magic number. As published benchmarks: Meta reports a 13% improvement in cost per acquisition on average for advertisers who add the Conversions API to the Pixel, and Google reports median conversion uplifts of about 5% on Search and 17% on YouTube from enhanced conversions. Meta shows your own uplift in Events Manager.

04Does server-side tracking get around cookie consent?

No, and it shouldn’t. UK rules on cookies and personal data apply however the data travels. We build the set-up so that nothing is sent to ad platforms for people who decline cookies, and Consent Mode passes each person’s choice on to Google.

05What is the Meta Conversions API?

It’s Meta’s way of receiving conversion events directly from a server rather than only from the pixel in the browser. Run alongside the pixel, with a shared event ID so Meta counts each conversion once, it gives Meta a more complete picture to optimise from.

06What is the Microsoft UET Conversions API?

It’s Microsoft Advertising’s server-side connection: conversions are sent from your server straight to Microsoft, alongside the UET tag in the browser. With a shared event ID Microsoft counts each conversion once, and hashed email or phone details help it match more of them, so Bing, Copilot and the rest of Microsoft’s network optimise from more complete data. We set it up through server-side Google Tag Manager, consent-aware like the rest of your tracking.

07What does deduplication mean?

When the browser pixel and the server both send the same conversion, the platform needs to know they’re one event, not two. Both send the same event ID, and the platform keeps one. Without it, conversions are double-counted and bidding goes wrong.

08Will it stop ad blockers affecting my tracking?

It can recover some of what browser-only tracking loses, because events go through your own subdomain and straight to the platforms’ APIs. It won’t recover everything, and it only applies to people who have accepted cookies.

09How can I check my current tracking?

Run your site through our free tracking checker. It shows which tags you run, what fires before cookie consent, whether Consent Mode v2 and ad click IDs work, and whether there are signs of server-side tracking already.

10Does it need looking after?

Yes: hosting, updates and checks after site changes. We document everything, and monitoring after site changes is included for management clients.

11What is Google tag gateway?

A lighter option that serves Google’s tags from your own domain through a content delivery network such as Cloudflare, without running a separate tracking server. For some sites it’s enough on its own; for others, it sits alongside a full server-side set-up. We’ll recommend whichever fits.

12How much does server-side tracking cost?

It’s an add-on. Set-up starts from £250 for a lead-generation site and £450 for an online shop, as a fixed price confirmed once we’ve seen your current tracking. It’s free for management clients spending £5,000 or more a month. Hosting is paid at cost, straight to the provider: Stape’s free plan covers most small sites, with paid plans for busier ones.

13Is basic tracking included without the add-on?

Yes. If we manage your ads, building or fixing your core tracking is included: Google Tag Manager, GA4 key events, conversion tracking, Google enhanced conversions, Consent Mode, and the Meta Conversions API through your platform’s own integration where one exists (Shopify’s, for example). The add-on is the full server-side set-up on your own subdomain.

14Can you set it up if another agency runs our ads?

Yes. It can be a standalone project. We build it, test it, document it and hand it over, so your current team keeps the benefit.
