We’ll clean up your product data and Merchant Center, then run Shopping and Performance Max with targets set from your margins.
We read your public product list (up to 500 products) and six product pages. Feed apps can change some fields before they reach Google, so check Merchant Center’s diagnostics too. Results are kept for a few hours.
Free, no sign-up, no store access needed. We only read what any shopper or Google can see.
How to read your results.
In Google Shopping and Performance Max there are no keywords to bid on: your product data is the targeting. Google decides which searches a product can show for from its title, description, product type and identifiers, so better product data means more of the right searches, and fewer disapprovals.
The five areas
- Titles: the single biggest lever. Length, the 150-character limit, promotional wording Google disapproves, capitals, duplicate titles and test products left live.
- Descriptions and images: every product needs a description and an image, and larger, multiple images help shoppers decide.
- Brand and identifiers: brand (Shopify’s Vendor field), product type for campaign structure, SKUs, and barcodes (GTINs), which help Google match products to searches.
- Price and stock: zero prices, “compare at” prices that aren’t real savings, and how much of the range is sold out.
- Product page data: whether pages carry Product structured data with brand, price and availability, and whether that price matches what you charge. Mismatches are a common cause of Merchant Center disapprovals.
What to do next
Start with the “fix these first” list, then work through the examples under each check: each one links to the product. Once the data is clean, set targets from your margins with the ROAS calculator or MER and POAS calculator, and read our guide to Google Shopping for Shopify stores. Check your tracking with the tracking checker too, because Smart Bidding is only as good as the purchase data it learns from.
Keep calculating.

01What does the Shopify product checker test?
It reads your store’s public product list and a sample of product pages, then checks what Google Shopping and Performance Max rely on: title length and wording, promotional text, duplicate titles, descriptions, images, brand, product type, SKUs, zero or odd prices, sold-out products, and the product structured data on your pages, including barcodes (GTINs) and price mismatches.
02Do I need to give you access to my store?
No. Shopify stores publish a public product list that any browser can read, and product pages are public too. The checker reads only what a shopper or Google could see. Nothing is changed in your store.
03Why does it say it couldn’t find a Shopify product list?
The checker only works with Shopify stores, and some stores (often large or headless ones) switch the public product list off or block automated visits. If yours does, the same checks can be run on your Merchant Center feed instead.
04Is this the same as my Google Merchant Center feed?
It’s the data your feed is built from. Shopify’s Google & YouTube channel and most feed apps take titles, descriptions, images, vendor, product type, SKUs and barcodes straight from your products, so problems here usually show up in Merchant Center too. Feed apps can override some fields, so check Merchant Center’s diagnostics as well.
05Why are GTINs (barcodes) important?
A GTIN tells Google exactly which product you sell, so it can match it to searches and show richer listings. Products with correct GTINs usually get more impressions. Add them in Shopify’s Barcode field. If a product genuinely has no barcode, brand plus MPN (often your SKU) is the fallback.
06How long should Google Shopping titles be?
Up to 150 characters, with the important words in the first 70, because that’s all most placements show. Lead with what people search for: brand, product type and key attributes such as colour, size, material or model.
07How many products does it check?
Up to the first 500 products in your store, plus six product pages for structured data. That’s enough to see the patterns: if a problem shows up in the sample, it’s usually across the catalogue.
We fix product data and Merchant Center issues, then run Google Shopping and Performance Max to profit, not just revenue.
